The Becket Cook Show was created by Becket Cook to discuss relevant topics and to crush the lies of culture with truth. Becket Cook was born and raised in Dallas, Texas. After graduating from college, he moved to Los Angeles to pursue his dream of writing and acting, finding success in both. He eventually became a production designer working on fashion shoots for brands such as Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, Gap, L'Oréal Paris, and Nike. Becket lived as a gay man until 2009, when he reluctantly agreed to attend a church service at which he was transformed by the gospel and gave his life to Christ. He also knew that homosexuality was a sin and that he could no longer live that life. Becket spends much of his time in ministry speaking at churches, universities, and conferences helping people understand this issue biblically, theologically, culturally, and personally. Becket graduated from Talbot School of Theology at Biola University in 2017 with a Master of Arts in Theology.

Richard describes his powerful rooftop encounter with God, the freedom found in Scripture and community at V1 Church, the launch of Redeemption Ministries, and how authenticity about leaving same-sex attraction has opened doors for digital evangelism, podcasts, and equipping the church on biblical sexuality and the gospel. https://youtube.com/@richwithpassion?si=NOGKsPuHZP4wjtjp https://www.therichardmatthews.com The Becket Cook Show Ep. 251 Discover more Christian podcasts at lifeaudio.com and inquire about advertising opportunities at lifeaudio.com/contact-us.

56 min

NOTE: When you sign up for Patreon, PLEASE do it through a web browser (Safari, Chrome, etc.) and NOT an app on your iPhone. The Apple app charges 30% !!! If you just click on the link above, it should be fine. In today’s episode, Becket Cook sits down with New York Times bestselling author Eric Metaxas to discuss his powerful new book Revolution: The Birth of the Greatest Nation in the History of the World. Timed with America’s 250th anniversary, Metaxas reveals why the American Revolution stands alone in history—rooted in the biblical conviction that the colonists rejected an earthly king to look directly to God—and unpacks lesser-known details from John Adams’ 1761 courtroom flashpoint with James Otis Jr. and the Writs of Assistance, through the Stamp Act, Samuel Adams as the true “Father of the Revolution,” Patrick Henry’s bold defiance, the killing of 11-year-old Christopher Seider, George Whitefield’s Great Awakening influence, the Boston Tea Party, Thomas Paine’s Common Sense, and the real timeline of the Declaration of Independence. Metaxas also dismantles myths (George Washington was no deist), celebrates heroes like John Hancock and Joseph Warren, and explains why every American must reclaim this God-centered founding story to preserve liberty for the next 250 years. A must-watch conversation on the American Revolution, Founding Fathers, and the birth of the greatest nation in world history. Was Phoebe really a deacon? with Denny Burk

NOTE: When you sign up for Patreon, PLEASE do it through a web browser (Safari, Chrome, etc.) and NOT an app on your iPhone. The Apple app charges 30% !!! If you just click on the link above, it should be fine. In today's episode, Becket Cook talks with theologian and author Denny Burk who joins the show to unpack his new book Mere Complementarianism: Male and Female in the Image of God. Discover the true biblical meaning of complementarianism—rooted in the Danvers Statement—and how it differs from soft complementarianism, hard complementarianism, egalitarianism, and biblical patriarchy. Burk explains why men and women, equally made in the image of God, have distinct yet complementary roles in marriage, the home, and the church, drawing deeply from Genesis 1–3, Ephesians 5, 1 Timothy 2, and 1 Corinthians 11. They tackle the most pressing questions: Who can preach on Sunday mornings, teach Sunday school, or serve as seminary professors and deacons? What does the Bible say about women, head coverings, and Phoebe? Why does the path to LGBTQ affirmation almost always begin with an egalitarian hermeneutic? And why is complementarianism a vital second-order doctrine that protects the gospel itself? Whether you’re seeking clarity on biblical gender roles, male headship, or the dangers of feminist reinterpretations of Scripture, this conversation delivers a clear, Scripture-saturated defense of God’s good design for men and women. From Forest McDonald's lessons on intellectual honesty to the Bible's influence on figures like Shakespeare, Faulkner, Mark Twain, and the Declaration of Independence, this conversation reveals how biblical literacy shapes everything from capitalism and science to human rights and restraint on evil impulses.
