Whenever we hear of spiritual failure, whether in a leader, a friend, a family member, or even in our own lives, we instinctively ask the same questions:
What happened?
What caused the failure?
We often point to surface‑level issues like the love of money or moral compromise—the pressures of leadership, the temptations of success. And no doubt, those are real factors. But behind all those symptoms lies a deeper, more fundamental problem. The root cause that only the Bible exposes, and it does so repeatedly.
In the Old Testament, there is a story that illustrates this with remarkable clarity. It is the story of a king who began brilliantly, prospered greatly, and then collapsed spiritually. His downfall was neither mysterious nor complicated. It was rooted in one single cause, the same cause behind every spiritual failure in every generation.
That cause is revealed in 2 Chronicles 26. In this episode, we’re not just looking at Uzziah’s failure. We’re not just examining the symptoms, and we’re not just tracing the secondary effects; we are looking at the core reason. We are going after the root cause. The underlying spiritual condition that leads to collapse, no matter how strong the beginning may be.
