The Practice of Scripture: Theology pt 2: Knowing What you Believe by Knowing What the Scriptures Say

Knowing what you believe comes from knowing everything the Bible has to say about any given topic. You cannot get the Bible to say anything you want it to say, you get to gather what it does say.  This is as an exercise of surrendering your opinions/preferences to the authority of scripture even more than it is a study skill.  This practice is called Systematic Theology, and we’re going to practice it as such as we explore a host of scriptures on different topics.

About the series
We have been studying the spiritual practice of scripture since the beginning of the school year. For the first several weeks, we focused on how to read & interpret scripture. The final 3 weeks of the series are all about how scripture informs our theology. Theology is an intimidating word, isn't it? In most of our minds, theology is a self-contained world for academics (and maybe paid clergy).

The only problem is that we ALL have beliefs ("logia") about God ("theos"), and our beliefs about God are being formed/shaped by something. Hopefully, our thoughts and beliefs about God are being formed by scripture.
