The Practice of Scripture: Interpreting pt 3: Divine Authority | Human Authorship (And Sticky Spots Inbetween)

All scripture is God breathed, useable, and authoritative on matters of faith and pratice, but what do you do on all those sticky spots where the faith it teaches seems inconsistent, and the practice it teaches just doesn’t make any sense at all?  

Did Jonah really have a whale?  Do women really not get to speak in church?  Was there one angel or two at the tomb? Is the God of the Old Testament really the same one read in the New? Why do we follow some laws and not others?

While all of us disciples of Jesus would like to make the plain simple reading of the Biblical text authoritatively true, the truth is that it’s a whole lot messier than that, and we need to know what approach to practice when interpretation runs into apparent contradictions.  This is a Sunday to just be honest about Bible difficulties caused by the humanity of the authors, but also the authority of truth the Spirit breathed over it anyway.
